I was born in Brno, Czechoslovakia. I started taking photographs during my studies of Architecture in Prague, documenting the changes after the Velvet Revolution in 1989. After finishing my degree, I decided to become a photographer and I have been free-lancing ever since, working for various publications and agencies. I got my photography education at the Institute of Creative Photography in Czech Republic, and at the International Center of Photography in New York.

I started my career in documentary photography, with a self-assigned photography project "Europeans". I tried to capture the identity and life of the cities in West and East of Europe, after the fall of communism and at the turn of millennium. I photographed in 30 European countries between the years 1997 and 2002. The project was exhibited and published internationally (Leica Gallery in New York, Paris Photo with Eric Franck Fine Arts, Transphotographiques Festival in Lille, Marghera Photography Festival in Italy, etc; published in Pour Voir, Elle, Reflex, others); and it is coming-up as a book.

I also worked on various photography assignments: "Russian Holidays" and "On the Road: Between Moscow and St. Petersburgh" (2001 and 2002, for Anzenberger Agency), "East Europeans in New York" (2002, for the Czech National Geographic), "NightLife in Belgrade" (2004, for Deadline), "Euro-Land: European Tourism" (2003), "Life in Moravia" (2002-2004), "Sudetenland - Interrupted History" (2002-2004)
